The always kind and ready to help palitosci aka Lucas Scialabba was nice enought to explain me how to make thumbnails for the designs that are for voting on the new site. I will try to explain the little that I know so others can make use of it.

I will use my own collab as an example

when you go to the page where you design is posted, you will see this as the internet address for that page: http://beta.threadless.com/threadless/new-proflie-picture/

(of course you will see the name of your design instead of mine) copy that information since you will need it to create your thumbnail

this is how you start to write the code to create your thumnbnail

type the following:

the symbol then the symbol

to make this code work on the new site

type the code as previuosly explained , then copy and paste it
on the copied code erase the symbol and the symbol

you can see the differences between those two

one last thing, you can make the thumbnails bigger or smaller by changing the numbers 220 and 119 onn your code by anything else you want it to be, just make sure to add or substract the same amount to both numbers 220+50=270 and 119+50=269 for example

soloyo
soloyo profile pic Alumni

it looks a lot more complicated that it really is

jeffreyg
jeffreyg profile pic Staff

its annoying because i always have to like resize all my photos now.

soloyo
soloyo profile pic Alumni

it could be worse

soloyo
soloyo profile pic Alumni

like I said the explanation was a lot simpler earlier but I keep getting erased by the site

ADAPT to survive

JonBurgessDesign

Nicely explained. That was how I did it, only I uploaded small versions of the artwork to my webspace and linked it from there. Also, if you copy the code out onto textedit or whatever simple text editor PCs use, you can arrange it, then copy paste into your blog post. Save the text edit file and you have a template ready for next time.

soloyo

yeah ^

once you have done it a first time, just modify it for the following designs

soloyo
soloyo profile pic Alumni

at least now we know how to make them

While i think it's stupid that threadless has gotten rid of these, i very much appreciate this info- thanks Nestor and Lucas!

Manupix

just make sure to add or substract the same amount to both numbers No, what you'd need to do is make sure the proportion of both numbers keeps the same. But it's much more simple: you only need to specify either width or height and it displays right. The 'border' and 'alt' infos are not necessary either.

Here goes with the following code: bracket a href="http://" bracket bracket img src="http://threadless-media.s3.amazonaws.com/submissions/profile_picture02.jpg" width="220"/ bracket bracket /a

Manupix

Ha. Image is ok but not link-through.

Manupix

also a bracket's missing at the end!

Manupix

Well well well. This looks ok on the old site, but NOT ON THE BETA. Now I look like an idiot ;_;

Manupix

Let's try stuff:

width = 20 this time. I like/hate that it shows at the wanted size on the comment preview, either at 220 or 20 px!

Manupix

...but displays full width in the actual comment.

Not full-design-width actually, only full-column-width. I suspect this forum now uses an auto resizing of large (useful) and small (useless) images, which will prevent us mess/have fun with image sizes. Meaning, you don't need any of this resize-code at all anyway, not even in your profile =)

Manupix

At least it doesn't enlarge small images

that cookie looks even bigger now LOL

hmm, they aren't working, but you can see them on the link I gave or any of your own pages if you submitted new designs.

soloyo

I see what you mean but I have not been able to make those work yet, so I figured I used the kind of thumbnails I explained about in this blog for now.

There is actually a way to make picture links using the new forum tools without html!

First, click the chain icon to make a link, your code will look like this:

[enter link description here][1]

  [1]: http://beta.threadless.com/submission/leprechauns-gold/

-- Next, add an image after the link with the camera icon:

[enter link description here][1]
![enter image description here][2]

  [1]: http://beta.threadless.com/submission/leprechauns-gold/
  [2]: https://threadless-media.s3.amazonaws.com/submissions/487747-f7e07a820647df770420cc5a3c843e3f.jpg

-- And now the trick! Select and cut the line that marks the image and paste it over the "enter link description" text:

[![enter image description here][2]][1]

  [1]: http://beta.threadless.com/submission/leprechauns-gold/
  [2]: https://threadless-media.s3.amazonaws.com/submissions/487747-f7e07a820647df770420cc5a3c843e3f.jpg

-- And the result is a link in a picture!

Morkki
Morkki profile pic Alumni

Well, that almost worked. The reason why it gives a 404 is the /submission/ part in the url. That should be /colleges/ in this case

Morkki
Morkki profile pic Alumni

Ok, looks like I found a bug. If you have designs up for scoring, there are these nice thumbnails to the designs in the sidebar in the threads you started. But for whatever reason these links are in this form: beta.threadless.com/submission/(sub title). But this link works ONLY if clicked in the sidebar, if copypasted it results in a 404. It should always be beta.threadless.com/(challenge title)/(sub title)
